Public Safety

I was raised in a household which placed a premium on the importance of public safety. My father and sister have been involved with criminal justice reform collectively for over 50 years. I followed their lead by obtaining a Criminal Justice Degree from Gonzaga University.  Our family has lobbied for laws in Olympia against vicious assaults and championed a resolution.  Providing the citizens of Spokane Valley with a safer community is my passion!

I learned the value of community involvement through my family as I watched the City of Spokane being transformed through the "Blueprint for Reform," and establishment of the Spokane Regional Law and Justice Council.  Because I wanted to make a difference I became a member of the Spokane County Sheriff's Citizen Advisory and Review Board (CAB).  This organization has excelled over the past several years and become a model of best practices across the nation.  In addition I am also an active member of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement.  I have additional experience as a Crime-Check and 9-1-1 Operator.

I support the efforts of our City’s police, fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel and the valued services they provide to the citizens of Spokane Valley. Our present police force and their leadership are doing an admirable job in providing safety for our community and innovative approaches to policing.  Our Sheriff Community Oriented Policing Effort (SCOPE) and their volunteers do an amazing job for their countless volunteer hours.

Our present contract with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office is a bargain for our hard earned dollars and we should recognize the hard job our officers do to keep our valley and its citizens safe and secure.  Due to my relationships I have developed with our Law Enforcement partners, I feel we can explore collaboratively best practices to enhance our current contract.  Our men and women in law enforcement need to know we support them and will partner with them to make our community streets and neighborhoods safer.
